“Feminity”, “Masculinity”, and “Androgyny”: A Modern Philosophical Discussion

“Feminity”, “Masculinity”, and “Androgyny”: A Modern Philosophical Discussion

In this philosophical exploration at sex roles, the authors deal with the central question of whether the “masculine” is male-linked and the “feminine”, female-linked with respect both to psychological characteristics and social and labor roles. Various notions of sex and gender in the literature are discussed and tested, and methodological difficulties with confirming a presupposed sex-gender link are examined. A substantial portion of the book is devoted to the pros and cons of “androgyny”.
